Racer Eligibility
The races are open to industry professionals who have been invited by AIG to participate on three-person racing teams. All racers must sign a liability waiver and the race rules before competing. All employees of Stowe Mountain Resort and its affiliates are ineligible to race.
Competition Rules
Races for Wednesday and Thursday will be modified giant slaloms held on Competition Hill at Spruce Peak, near Spruce Camp Base Lodge. There will be two equal courses (Blue and Red) and racers will be assigned to one of these courses. Each competitor will take one run on his or her assigned course.
- Helmets, lift tickets, and bibs are mandatory for all racers. Helmets are not provided. Lift tickets will be distributed to racers at on-site registration. Bibs must be worn on chest when racing.
- Races will be run in a “Show and Go” format (first come, first served regardless of bib number).
- Competitors with odd numbered bibs will run on the Blue course and competitors with even numbered bibs will run on the Red course.
- Each racer must take one run on their assigned course.
- Any substitutions must be made by the team captain by 9:00 am on Wednesday.
- After Wednesday’s race, any substitutions disqualify your team for prize consideration.
- To be eligible for team awards, the exact same team members must race on Wednesday and Thursday.
- If you lose a ski, you are disqualified unless you are within three gates of the finish, in which case you may finish on one ski.
- If you miss a gate, you must hike back to that gate and properly round it or you will be disqualified.
- If you are interfered with, you must ski out of the course, stop, and notify a race official immediately. You will then be allowed a provisional re-run. If you complete your run without such notification, your claim of interference will be disallowed.
- For the flight competitions, a DNF, DNS, or DSQ will be assigned a default time.
- If a team has fewer than three members, a default time will be assigned for each missing member.
- Disqualifications will be posted at the finish 15 minutes after the race, ~ 2:15 pm. If you are disqualified, you will have 30 minutes from the time the DSQs are posted to protest. After that, protests will be disallowed.
Wednesday Race
Wednesday's race will determine the winners of the individual age groups, and will also be used to place the teams into flights for Thursday's team competition.
- The runs will begin at 11:00 am and the course will be available until 2:00 pm (using “Show and Go” format).
- Awards will be presented to the fastest skier in each age/sex category as well as the fastest male and female snowboarder.
The age groups are as follows:
Women | Men |
21-29 | 21-29 |
30-39 | 30-39 |
40-49 | 40-44 |
-- | 45-49 |
50-59 | 50-59 |
60 & over | 60 & over |
Thursday Race
Thursday's race will determine the team results.
- The run will begin at 11:00 am and the course will be available until 1:00 pm (using “Show and Go” format). At 1:00 pm, the elite racers (bibs 1-30) will run head to head. Following the elite racers, the course will be open until 2:00 pm for "challenge races.” Challenge races are fun runs where racers go head to head with whomever they choose. Runs will be timed, though not included in the day’s race results.
- Your team’s fastest individual run from Wednesday will be used to place the team into one of five flights.
- You will take your run on the assigned course, odd numbers running on the Blue course and even numbers running on the Red course.
- The flight competition will be based on the three team members' combined times. If a team member does not start, does not finish, or is disqualified from a run, he or she will be assigned a default time.
- Awards will be presented to the fastest three teams in each flight.
